May 2016 Recap
May was busy in an unreal way, and I couldn't be happier. I took some time to shoot some new things, hit up a few awesome shows, assisted on a couple weddings, and still found time to get involved with some awesome local initiatives. While still writing for WindsoriteDOTca and The Windsor Independent, of course. I also started up a new Instagram account to feature my portrait photography, so check that out if you get a chance, and give it a follow! I hope that May sets the tone for the rest of the summer, and if the first week of June is any indication I'm certainly keeping the momentum.
Here's a quick recap of a few of my shoots from May.
Nature in Essex County - May 8 - 10
While my landlord had some work done in my apartment I visited my parents in Harrow for a few days. While there I figured it would be a great opportunity to try out some long exposure and landscape shots, since the scenery in that area is spectacular. And of course I had to get some photos of the dogs as well, because they're good boys.
Margaret Atwood at The University of Windsor - May 11
When I heard Margaret Atwood was going to be doing a free reading and Q&A session in Windsor I was so excited. I remember reading her novel Cat's Eye when I was a teenager, and the book really resonated with me. I've been a fan of her work ever since, and couldn't pass up the opportunity to see her in person. So I got in touch with my editor at WindsoriteDOTca and arranged for myself to cover the event. It was an awesome experience and I am so happy that I was able to attend.
Defour Family Portraits - May 20
Way back in March I booked this photo shoot for one of my dad's work friends. They had family coming in from California, and on this rare occasion that the entire family was around they wanted to get some portraits done, including re-creating an old photo. So we all met out at the family farm in Harrow, which had been in the family since their great-grandfather emigrated here from Blegium decades ago, to capture some fun memories.
Movement Electronic Music Festival at Hart Plaza, Detroit - May 27
There's already an entire post dedicated to this event, so I won't go into too much detail here, but suffice to say I had a blast.
You Bred Raptors? at Phog Lounge - May 29
Once again thus show has it's own post, but I still can't get over how freaking awesome it was, so I'm going to say it again. Check. These. Guys. Out.
YQG Talks at The Olde Walkerville Theatre - May 31
Apparently I blogged a lot this month, because once again I've already written about this event, but this was a super cool thing to have been involved with, so I don't mind plugging it again. Also, I'll be speaking at the next one, happening on June 28, along with an impressive list of local entrepreneurs, so you should really consider coming out. You can pick up tickets to the event here.
